Christine Farquharson is a Senior Research Economist in the Education and Skills team at the Institute for Fiscal Studies. Her research focuses on evaluating early intervention programmes, including high-profile evaluation of the impact that Sure Start children's centres have had on children's health and development. Christine leads IFS' work analysing public spending on the free entitlement and other early years programmes, and is an author of the Education chapter for the IFS Deaton Review of Inequalities. Between 2018 and 2020, Christine was a co-editor of the Green Budget, IFS' flagship publication setting out analysis of the public finances and options facing the Chancellor ahead of each year's Budget.
